DHAKA, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) - A team of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has
arrested a fugitive accused in a 2023 murder case from Sherpur for his
alleged role in the fatal stabbing of a teenage boy.

The accused named Md Masud, 27, was captured by ATU personnel of Mymensingh
Divisional Office, from Bilbharat area under Sribardi Police Station in
Sherpur district at 1:30 am on November 26 last, said a press release.

Masud was wanted in a 2023 murder case in which 13-year-old Md Jasim was
stabbed to death near Bhayada Bazar under Shadhivardi Police Station on April
5, 2023.

The victim's brother filed the case under section 302/34 of the Penal Code on
April 6 in 2023.

Masud had earlier been detained in Sherpur district Jail but escaped on
August 5, 2024, during unrest following the fall of the government amid the
anti-discrimination student movement.

Masud earlier gave a confessional statement in court.

A charge sheet was submitted on September 2, 2023, and the case remains
pending.

Jail authorities filed a separate case over the escape with Sherpur Sadar
Police Station.

Masud, who had been absconding for over a year and is also wanted in two
additional cases, has been handed over to Shadhivardi Police Station for
legal proceedings.
