DHAKA, Dec 7, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas today said BNP does not give false pledges just to get votes.

“Many people (candidates) disappear after the election, but I don’t have that scope. I am a son of this area,” he told a views-exchange meeting with teachers, officials, and local elderly people from five educational institutions of Ward number 12 of DSCC at Abudharr Ghifari College in the city’s Malibagh.

Prayers were offered on the occasion seeking recovery of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Mirza Abbas said: “The number of drug abusers is increasing. Today there are no playgrounds, no recreation spots, and no clubs for elders to spend time. The Awami League has occupied all playing grounds and other spaces and constructed buildings on these,” he said.

“If the people elect me in the upcoming polls, I will free the local playgrounds, parks, and clubs from political occupation. The places where I had allocated fields and recreational spaces have also been grabbed by the Awami League. The real issue is that those who are not from this area have no emotional connection to it,” he said.

Canals must be freed from illegal occupation to free Dhaka from water logging, he said.

“Many water bodies are now grabbed. The passages for drainage are blocked. These must be freed,” he added.
