Court freezes 86 bank accounts of ex-MP Tanvir, his family members

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered to freeze 86 bank 
accounts of former lawmaker from Sirajganj-1 constituency Tanvir Shakil Joy, 
his wife Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury, mother Laila Arjumand Banu, brother Tomal 
Monsur and Mir Mosharraf Hossain, PS to former health minister Mohammed 
Nasim.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court's Vacation Bench Judge Mohammad 
Abdullah Al Mamun passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption 
Commission (ACC).

Investigation Officer and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director 
Afroza Haque Khan said the accounts currently hold a balance of Taka 17.76 
crore.

The petition stated that an inquiry team has been formed to investigate 
allegations that Tanvir Shakil Joy amassed wealth beyond known sources of 
income and engaged in money laundering by abusing power and earning money 
through various irregularities and corruption, and subsequently conducting 
transactions through bank accounts operated in his own name and in the names 
of persons connected to his interests.

According to the petition, information has been found regarding transactions 
amounting to crores of Taka in a total of 86 bank accounts. 

The petition further stated that the accused and persons involved were 
attempting to transfer, move or dispose of the funds kept in these accounts. 
If the money is transferred or moved before completion of the inquiry, there 
is a strong possibility that the investigation may be harmed.
