DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said the shadow of expansionism still looms large over Bangladesh as a group is engaged in a conspiracy to undermine the country's sovereignty and independence.

He said, "Bangladesh's thousands of years of history, tradition, and culture are so strong that, as in the past, these ill-attempts will fail in the future as well."

Rizvi made the remarks while speaking to journalists this morning after paying tribute by laying flowers at the grave of the BNP founder  Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of the 47th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS).

Referring to BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as a national leader, Rizvi said that he (Tarique) can contest the election from any part of the country if he chooses. He added that due to his (Tarique) popularity and acceptability, there will be no hindrance to his candidacy anywhere.
"Tarique Rahman is the main symbol for election campaigning and inspiring voters across the country. The entire nation has recognized his leadership and accepted him as a national leader. That is why he can contest elections from any area of the country," he added.

He further remarked, "National leaders can contest elections from anywhere. Tarique Rahman will stand from wherever he deems logical.

During the event, Rizvi called upon the cultural workers of JASAS to take a pioneering role in building resistance against expansionism. He said, "Cultural workers will inspire the nation and build a strong national culture through the practice of songs, poetry, drama, and literature."

The event was attended by JASAS Convener, film actor Helal Khan, Member Secretary Zakir Hossain Rokan, and leaders and activists of the organization from various levels.
