DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), for the first time, has brought 2,467 cleaners under health insurance coverage.

The DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz inaugurated the health insurance coverage programme at the Nagar Bhaban today. DNCC Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore ABM Shamsul Alam presided over the programme.

“I think there should be health insurance for cleaners in all government and private offices. Despite the growing population of Dhaka, the number of our employees remains limited. We are working to ensure the safety of our existing staff,” Ejaz said.

He said that waste management workers have been working in a risky and unsafe environment, adding, “Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure their social security.”

The administrator said that, in addition to regular employees, initiatives are underway to gradually bring 5,000 more outsourced workers and mosquito control workers under the health insurance coverage.

Beneficiaries under the health insurance coverage will be able to receive medical services at half the cost at more than 400 private clinics in the capital, he said.

“They will receive special health protection if they fall ill. If a health worker dies, a one-time financial assistance of Tk 30,000 will be provided,” he said.

The annual premium for health insurance was set at Tk 200. Sajeda Foundation and Reckitt Bangladesh (Harpic) will bear the insurance premium for 1,000 people, while the DNCC will provide the insurance premium for 1,467 people.

The insurance benefits are being provided in collaboration with Chartered Life Insurance.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul-Al-Quais Chowdhury, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sajeda Foundation Mohammad Fazlul Haque, and Reckitt Bangladesh Head of Marketing Sabrin Maruf Tinni, among others, were present.
