Chattogram airport customs seize 440 cartons of foreign cigarettes

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 1, 2026 (BSS) -Customs authorities at Hazrat Shah Amanat 
International Airport seized about 440 cartons of foreign cigarettes, valued 
at around Taka 30 lakh, from a flight arriving from Dubai on Wednesday night.

Engineer Ibrahim Khalil, the Public Relations Officer of Chattogram Customs 
House, confirmed the seizure. The cigarettes were discovered around 10 pm on 
Wednesday night and were subsequently stored at the customs warehouse.

Customs sources reported that 440 cartons of 'Mond' brand cigarettes were 
confiscated by officials from the airport's 'A' shift, in collaboration with 
the AIR branch of Chattogram Customs House.

A passenger, a resident of Fatikchhari upazila, was found carrying 200 
cartons in his luggage. Additionally, 240 cartons were discovered abandoned 
on the luggage belt in the international arrival hall.
