
JHENAIDAH, Jan 14, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 21,042 voters in four parliamentary constituencies of Jhenaidah district will cast their votes through postal ballots in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, including 79 inmates of Jhenaidah District Jail.
According to sources at the Jhenaidah District Election Office, the registered postal voters include 79 prisoners along with 14,511 officials and employees of government, semi-government and autonomous bodies who are working outside their respective constituencies.
In addition, 6,531 expatriate voters from Jhenaidah have registered to vote by postal ballot. Election officials said that although nearly 85,000 expatriates from the district live abroad, only about 6,500 completed voter registration.
Constituency-wise, postal ballots are being sent to 4,060 voters in Jhenaidah-1, 7,138 in Jhenaidah-2, 5,406 in Jhenaidah-3 and 4,438 in Jhenaidah-4. The voters will be able to cast their ballots within the stipulated timeframe.
District Election Officer Abul Hossain told BSS that the postal ballot system ensures voting rights for those unable to attend polling stations due to work commitments, overseas residence or imprisonment. “This is a significant and progressive step in strengthening the electoral system,” he said.
District Election Office Officer Alamgir Hussain said all necessary measures have been taken to ensure a fair, transparent and secure postal voting process, with special vigilance to prevent irregularities.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Al Masud said the introduction of postal voting is expected to increase voter participation and further strengthen the democratic process.
