Jamaat candidate Shahjahan Chow served show cause

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 14, 2026 (BSS)- Electoral Inquiry and Adjudication Committee has pressed show cause notice on Shahjahan Chowdhury, a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate, for breaching the electoral code of conduct.

The committee also served notice on Jamaat-e-Islami leader Jasim Uddin in connection with the incident.

This notices were served on Wednesday morning by Rupan Kumar Das, the chairman of the committee overseeing the Chattogram-15 constituency.

According to the committee Jamaat Ameer Md. Jasim Uddin on January 2 last solicited votes inappropriately in a reception at Barahatiya union of Lohagara upazila, from where Shahjahan Chowdhury is contesting.

As a video of the meeting was widely circulated on social media, Ashab Uddin Chowdhury, Joint Convener of the Chattogram South District BNP, filed a complaint with the judicial committee. 

The notice has instructed Jamaat candidate Shahjahan Chowdhury to report to the temporary office of the chairman of the Electoral Inquiry and Adjudication Committee at 11 am on next Monday and to submit a written reply regarding the allegation.
