DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) – BNP Chairperson's Advisor and valiant freedom fighter Abdus Salam has said there is no alternative to BNP at present for protecting the country and establishing democracy and ensuring religious freedom.

Salam, who is also the Chief Coordinator of the Dhaka-17 Constituency of the party’s Election Management Committee made the remarks while exchanging views with ‘Olama Mashayekh’ (Islamic scholars and clerics) at the Dhaka-17 Constituency BNP Election Main Office in Banani on Sunday.

Abdus Salam said, " A certain quarter is carrying out devilish activities from within—first keeping the BNP in power and then conspiring to seize power again through street movements  posing a serious threat to the country.”

The senior BNP leader also commented that the BNP has never done anything which goes against Islam.

He said the upcoming election is extremely important not only for the BNP but also for the freedom of the common people, the practice of religion, and the future of the country.

"The decision on whether this country will remain independent or be sold out will be made in this election."

Paying tribute to BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Abdus Salam said, "His contribution in establishing peace during the Iran-Iraq war was historic and praiseworthy.

It was Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who created employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia, paving a way for earning with dignity instead of taking donation money. “This is why Ziaur Rahman is the only head of state remembered in history with the title 'Shaheed' (Martyr)."

Regarding Tarique Rahman, he said, "A quarter is deliberately spreading propaganda against the BNP Chairman.

He said after August 5, 2024, Tarique Rahman himself instructed not to carry out any retaliatory attacks, arson, or anarchy. Giving such instruction, he proved himself as a true leader, he added.

Thanking everyone, he said that an appeal is being made to contact the party office for any assistance in the election activities.

At that time, another advisor to the BNP Chairperson Prof Dr. Farhad Halim Donor, said  Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman did not declare independence for any personal interest or for grabbing power.

“Even though he was a Major, he made this declaration risking his life; this is proof of his immense patriotism. After independence, he returned to the barracks,” he added.

On November 7, he said when the country's independence, sovereignty, and Islamic values were under threat; he took responsibility and added "Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim" to the constitution.

This leader, who used to offer prayers five times a day, established his faith and values regarding Islam at the state level.

BNP Chairperson's Advisor Nazimuddin Alam and various ‘Olama Mashayekh’ were also present at the meeting, among others.
