DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS): ACC today submitted charge sheet against former lawmaker from Mymensingh-2 constituency and former state minister Sharif Ahmed on charge of abusing power, acquiring illegal wealth and suspicious financial transactions.

Director General (DG) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md. Akhtar Hossain said this during regular media briefing at commission headquarters.

The case was filed on January 30 last year, the ACC DG added.

The ACC investigations found that prior to the 2014-15 tax year, Sharif Ahmed showed a savings of Taka 5.90 lakh only. But later his movable and immovable assets and financial transactions increased at an abnormal rate. From 2014-2015 tax year to 2024–2025 tax year, he reported total income of Taka 6.99 crore.

Of this amount, Taka 4.43 crore was claimed as income from his fisheries farms, but the investigators found no valid documents or actual evidence supporting his claim.

The ACC found evidences that Sharif Ahmed abused his power to acquire and possess the wealth beyond his known sources of income worth about Taka 4.55 crore.

In addition, information was found that through 12 bank accounts in his name, a total of about Taka 23 crore was deposited and Taka 19.60 crore was withdrawn from those accounts. The ACC has identified these transactions suspicious.

The charge sheet stated that through these transactions, illegal money was transferred, moved and converted, thereby committing offenses of money laundering.
