BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi recalls Arafat Rahman Koko’s death, demands justice and reiterates BNP’s commitment to fair elections.

DHAKA, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today described the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's younger son, Arafat Rahman Koko, as a result of brutal and repressive misrule.

"The late Arafat Rahman Koko was not involved in politics, he was a sports organizer. Yet his death occurred due to brutal, repressive misrule," he said.

Rizvi made the remarks while speaking at a prayer meeting held at BNP's central office in Nayapaltan, marking the 11th death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko.

"The younger son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and pro-democracy leader Begum Khaleda Zia passed away untimely, as a result of combined oppression and torture by fascists and their collaborators," he said.

"When his body returned to the country, BNP leaders and activists were under police warrants. Begum Khaleda Zia was seen holding her deceased son in her lap on television. Cases were filed against BNP leaders, activists, intellectuals, professors, doctors, and other prominent citizens who went to offer condolences," he added.

On the upcoming election, Rizvi emphasized BNP's demand for a free and fair vote. "BNP is committed to ensuring that those chosen by the people form the government. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is conducting his campaign in full compliance with election laws," he said.

The BNP leader highlighted the party's adherence to electoral discipline. "So far, Tarique Rahman has not used abusive language against opponents and has maintained dignity. Religion or financial inducements should not be used during elections, as per the code of conduct," he said.

Leaders and activists from various BNP tiers and affiliated organizations attended the prayer meeting.
