I’m not making false statements against opponents: Mirza Abbas

DHAKA, Feb 5, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member and part’s candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Mirza Abbas today said criticizing opponents in an election is normal, but making false or deceitful statements is not acceptable.

"As true Muslims, we do not tell lies. We have faith, we believe in Allah. Therefore, we will not tell lies in the election,” he said at an electoral exchange meeting, organized by the Motaleb Plaza Flat Owners Association in the city this afternoon.

The veteran BNP leader said he will present his past work and future plans during the election campaign. He will not use abusive or foul language regarding leaders or candidates of other parties. He urged people to vote with honesty and integrity.

"The people of this country have earned the right to vote through great hardship, blood and sacrifice. I hope they will exercise this right appropriately. Our presence will be maintained at the voting centers until the results are obtained,” said Mirza Abbas.

He further said that he will not get involved in any kind of disturbances or quarrels. However, he is prepared to fight if necessary after the election. Finally, he thanked the residents of the area for their support and sought their votes for ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ (Dhaner Shis).
