DHAKA, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - A ‘top terrorist’ identified as Dilip alias Binash ordered the killing of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman alias Musabbir (44) from abroad.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch (DB) Chief Md. Shafiqul Islam made the disclosure at a press conference held at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road here this morning.

According to the DB, Musabbir was shot dead by two hired gunmen—Jinnat and Abdur Rahim—in exchange for money.  Both were captured on CCTV footage at the scene.

Jinnat was arrested earlier, while Rahim (45) was arrested early Friday morning from Madhabdi police station area of Narsingdi district following a raid conducted on the basis of secret information.
During the arrest, police recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines and 12 rounds of bullets used in the murder.

A case under the Arms Act has been filed against Rahim with Madhabdi Police Station. One of the arrested accused has also confessed to involvement in the killing, DB officials said.

Police further stated that Dilip alias Binash maintains links with the arrested suspects. So far, five people have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Musabbir, former general secretary of Dhaka City North Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot dead around 8:30pm on January 7  last  in an alley near Hotel Super Star in West Tejturi Bazar under Tejgaon Police Station.

His wife later filed a murder case against four to five unidentified persons.

Responding to journalists’ questions, Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said the murder was committed to establish control over extortion activities in Karwan Bazar area.

The DB is continuing its investigation to uncover further details and arrest remaining fugitives.

Meanwhile, as part of intensified operations ahead of the upcoming 13th general election and referendum, the DB has strengthened its drive against illegal firearms.

On Friday, DB’s Wari Division arrested two individuals—Md. Rana Molla (26) and Nur Mohammad (32)—from Jatrabari area with a foreign pistol, two magazines, seven rounds of bullets and a motorcycle.

Police said the operation to recover illegal weapons will continue.
