DHAKA, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has declared areas within 100 metres of offices, courts, hospitals, clinics and educational institutions as "silent zones," imposing a strict ban on vehicle honking from February 3 under the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2025.

The decision was announced in a circular issued today signed by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali.

Under the new rules, honking in silent zones will be treated as a punishable offence, carrying penalties of up to Taka 10,000 in fines or three months' imprisonment.

From February 3, 2026, the DMP Traffic Division will begin strict enforcement, particularly targeting vehicles honking in and around the Bangladesh Secretariat, including internal roads and parking areas.

To ensure effective implementation, a coordinated special mobile court operation will be conducted involving the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Dhaka South City Corporation, and the Department of Environment.

The DMP has urged drivers of all government and private vehicles to strictly comply with the regulations to help reduce noise pollution in the capital.
