DHAKA, Feb 03, 2026 (BSS) - The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today paved the way for BNP candidate Aslam Chowdhury to contest the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election from the Chattogram-4 constituency.

The Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury passed the order today after granting a leave to appeal petition filed by the Jamaat candidate of the same constituency challenging the validity of Aslam Chowdhury's candidacy.

Following the order, Aslam's counsel, senior advocate Ruhul Quddus Kazal, said there is no legal bar to his client's participation in the election.

However, senior advocate Mohammad Hossain Lipu, representing the appellant, said that although Aslam Chowdhury may contest the election, the election results of the constituency will remain stayed until the disposal of the appeal filed on allegations of loan default.

Senior advocate Ahsanul Karim and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal represented Aslam Chowdhury during the hearing, while senior advocate Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Barrister ASM Shahriar Kabir appeared for the Jamaat candidate.
