
RAJSHAHI, Feb 20, 2026 (BSS)- Next Saturday, 21 February, is Great Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day—a historic day in the history of the Bengali nation.
To observe the day with due dignity, the Rajshahi District Administration has undertaken various programmes.
On Friday (20 February) at 10:00 am, drawing competitions, rhyme and poetry recitations, handwriting contests, and cultural performances involving children will be held at the District Shilpakala Academy and the Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Rajshahi office.
At 12:01 am at the start of 21 February (midnight of 20 February), wreaths will be laid in memory of the Language Martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar located in the Sonadighi area of the city.
At sunrise, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, educational institutions, and private buildings.
At 11:00 am, a discussion meeting titled “Ekushey: The Inspiration of National Awakening” and a prize-giving ceremony will be held at the auditorium of the District Shilpakala Academy.
On the same day, after Zuhr prayers, special munajat will be offered in all mosques for the peace of the souls of the Language Martyrs. Special prayers will also be held at temples and other places of worship at convenient times.
At suitable times, the District Information Office will arrange mobile musical performances and film screenings at important locations in the city.
On that day, road island and other key points in Rajshahi city will be decorated with festoons featuring the Bangla alphabet.
