2 killed in road accident on Dhaka-Bhanga expressway

SHARIATPUR, Feb 19, 2026 (BSS) - Two persons were killed and at least 20 others injured in a head-on collision of two passenger buses at Jamaddar Stand (Kalu Bepari Kandi) underpass on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway.

According to police and local sources, a Khan Paribahan bus traveling from Dhaka to Bhanga was parked by the roadside to pick up passengers. 

At that time, the driver of a Star Express bus (Dhaka Metro B-12-5270), also heading to Bhanga, lost his control of the steering and collided with the standing bus. Both buses were mangled in the collision, and several passengers were seriously injured.

One young man, identified as Akash Sardar, died at the scene. He was the son of Baharul Sardar from the Bhojer Gati area of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. 

Later, Star Express bus supervisor Yunus Molla, 51, who was seriously injured, was taken to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead. 

Following the accident, locals and members of the fire service rescued the injured and admitted them to Shibchar and nearby hospitals. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene, removed the wrecked vehicles, and restored traffic on the road after some time. 

Regarding the incident, Shah Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge South Police Station, said that the cause of the accident is under investigation. Legal action will be taken in this connection, he said.
