Scrap trader killed as three-wheeler overturns in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Feb 19, 2026 (BSS) - A scrap trader was killed and another was injured critically when a locally made three-wheeler (Bhutbhuti) overturned in Kalai upazila of the district today. 

The accident occurred around 3:00 pm in the Punot bus stand area on the Joypurhat-Bogura highway under Kalai upazila. 

The deceased, identified as Russell Mondol, 35, was a resident of Jamalpur Palpara village under Joypurhat Sadar upazila. His father's name is Liton Mondol. 

Police and family sources said Russell was travelling to Shibganj upazila in Bogura to sell scrap materials he had collected. 

When the vehicle reached the Punot area, it lost control and overturned on the highway. Russell sustained severe injuries to his head and chest and died on the spot.

The driver of the three-wheeler was injured in the accident. Locals rescued him and admitted him to Kalai Upazila Health Complex. His identity could not be confirmed immediately. 

Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam told BSS that police rushed to the scene after receiving the information and recovered the body. Necessary legal procedures are underway.
