DHAKA, April 10, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified its operational and intelligence-based activities across the country, including border area to keep the edible oil market stable and ensure uninterrupted supply.

The move is aimed at maintaining a smooth supply chain, preventing illegal stockpiling, curbing black market activities and dismantling smuggling syndicates blamed for abnormal price hikes.

As part of the ongoing crackdown, a joint team of BGB's Narayanganj Battalion (62 BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at around 1:00am today at a warehouse at Tarabo Kazipara intersection in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj.

The warehouse, owned by two individuals identified as Raju and Khorshed, was found to contain around 2,000 litres of illegally hoarded loose soybean oil stored in nine barrels.

Authorities discovered clear evidence that the oil had been collected from local markets, stored unlawfully, and repackaged using counterfeit labels branded as "Bondhon Plus" and "Bismillah" for distribution.

Such fraudulent practices pose serious risks to public health and violate consumer rights. Legal action against those involved is underway.

According to BGB sources, a total of approximately 5,425 liters of edible oil has been seized in just the first three months of 2026.

The drives were carried out in several districts, including Joypurhat, Satkhira, Jashore, Feni, Cox's Bazar and Narayanganj.

In comparison, BGB seized 13,177 liters in 2024 and 30,092 liters in 2025, totaling 43,269 liters over the past two years, demonstrating its continued effectiveness in combating illegal trade.

Amid the current situation, BGB remains on high alert in border areas to prevent illegal stockpiling and smuggling of edible oil.

Regular and special patrols have been intensified, and intelligence-based operations are being carried out targeting known smuggling routes and networks.

Surveillance has also been increased on suspicious vehicles, vessels, and warehouses in border regions.

To enhance the effectiveness of these efforts, BGB is coordinating closely with local administration, Bangladesh Army, RAB, police, and customs authorities through joint task force operations.

These coordinated actions are playing a vital role in monitoring market conditions and maintaining supply stability.

If necessary, joint operations are also being conducted beyond the 8-kilometre border belt.

Additionally, public awareness campaigns are being carried out involving local representatives and communities in border areas to highlight the negative impacts of edible oil smuggling and to discourage participation in such illegal activities.

BGB has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring border security while also working to stabilize the market for essential commodities.

The force continues to carry out its duties with professionalism to protect consumer interests and maintain an uninterrupted supply of edible oil.

Strict actions against illegal stockpiling, smuggling, and market manipulation will continue in the future.
