542,000 liters of illegally stored fuel recovered nationwide

DHAKA, April 15, 2026 (BSS) - Nearly 542,236 liters of illegally stored fuel oil have been recovered in a nationwide drive conducted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Department.

The Department of Fuel and Mineral Resources carried out special operations across the country to prevent irregularities in the illegal storage and supply of fuel oil, said a press release today.

A total of 366,001 liters of diesel were recovered during the operations conducted from March to April 14. In addition, 39,776 liters of octane and 87,959 liters of petrol were seized, the release said.

Separately, nearly 48,500 liters of furnace oil were recovered in an operation in Chattogram.

Overall, 9,116 drives were conducted across the country till April 14 to ensure proper management of fuel oil.

During the operations, 3,510 cases were filed, while mobile courts realised fines amounting to Taka 15.696 crore.

Additionally, 45 people were sentenced to imprisonment for various offences.

The Energy Department said the drives would continue in the future to maintain discipline in the energy sector and curb illegal activities.
