9 more die of measles, measles-like symptoms

DHAKA, May 09, 2026 (BSS) - Nine more people have died in the country in the last 24 hours due to measles and measles-like symptoms, according to a press release sent from the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) here today.

Of these, it said, three were confirmed to have measles while six had measles-like symptoms. 

It said that the number of suspected measles patients in the last 24 hours is 946 and the number of suspected measles patients from March 15 to May 9 is 47,656.

The number of confirmed measles cases in the last 24 hours is 489, and the number of confirmed measles cases since March 15 is 6,989. 

From March 15 to May 9, 33,631 people have been admitted to hospitals with suspected measles. 

At the same time, 29,746 people have recovered and been discharged from the hospital. 

A total of 61 people have died of confirmed measles till now. Besides, since March 15, 291 people have died of suspected measles. 

So far, a total of 21,612 people have been infected with suspected measles in Dhaka division. Of these, 4,468 people have been confirmed to have measles.
