DHAKA, May 9, 2026 (BSS)- Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam today called for a collective effort to transform the capital into a clean, healthy and dengue-free city.
"If everyone works together, Dhaka city can be transformed within the next six months," he said.
He made the remarks at the first-ever "Cleaning Day" programme held simultaneously across 10 DSCC zones.
The initiative was undertaken as part of the Prime Minister's announced weekly cleanliness campaign to prevent Aedes mosquito-borne dengue and chikungunya and ensure cleanliness across the city.
The administrator said no city could be kept clean without active public participation. He added that continued citizen involvement would help transform Dhaka into a modern and green city.
"Special cleanliness drives will be conducted on the first Saturday of every month at houses, markets, residential areas, mosques and shopping centres across the capital," he said.
He called upon political parties, social and voluntary organisations, scouts, BNCC, Red Crescent and members of BD Clean to engage in the cleanliness campaign.
He urged residents to regularly remove stagnant water from rooftops, flower pots and yards to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.

Regional Executive Officers of each DSCC zone supervised the cleanliness drives in the field.
Alongside city corporation officials and employees, various government and private organisations, educational institutions, private plot owners and general citizens spontaneously joined the programme.
Earlier, in the morning, the DSCC administrator inaugurated a modern temporary secondary transfer station (STS) and beautification works in Ward No. 12 of the capital's Malibagh area.
