Govt to stand by cable operators in resolving logical problems: Fakir Mahbub

DHAKA, May 9, 2026 (BSS) - Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, MP, today said the government will continue supporting cable operators in resolving their logical problems as the cable, ISP and broadcasting sectors are linked to the employment of millions of people across the country. 

He said it is the government's responsibility to sustain the sector and develop it in line with modern technology.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mahbub Anam, also the minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the International Cable TV, Broadcasting and Communication (ICBC) Expo 2026 held at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital, said a press release. 

The minister said the cable television, broadcasting and telecommunications sector of Bangladesh has now entered a new era through technological transformation. With the expansion of smart technology, fibre optic networks, IP TV and digital content management systems, the sector has become an important driving force for national development, employment and the IT-based economy, he added.

He said that the government is giving utmost importance to infrastructure development, policy support, creation of skilled human resources and technological innovation in the modernization of this sector. 

The long-standing contribution of cable operators has strengthened the country's information and entertainment sector and the government will continue to stand by them in the future, he said.

The minister emphasized on ensuring ethics in the use of technology, customer data security and quality services. He also called for increasing international partnerships and encouraging local content production.

Three-day expo, which began on May 7, ended today. A total of 67 domestic and foreign companies displayed their latest cable TV, broadcasting and communication technologies and services at the expo.

Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) President ABM Saiful Hossain Sohel presided over the event. Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam, ATCO General Secretary and Ekushey Television Chairman Abdus Salam and other COAB members were present at the event.

After the closing ceremony, the minister visited various stalls of the fair.
