
THAKURGAON, May 9, 2026 (BSS)- Minister for Commerce, Industry, and Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said, creating a skilled population and developing the next generation with technical skill is one of the most important visions of the current government.
“And food processing zone of ??Thakurgaon BSCIC Industrial City is being developed with that aim in mind," he said while visiting under-construction “BSCIC Food Processing Industrial City here today.
The minister was accompanied by Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Obaidur Rahman and Chairman of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Saiful Islam.
Senior government officials and Project Director Hafizur Rahman and officials of BSCIC officials and local industrial entrepreneurs were present.
The minister said the government is working relentlessly to further accelerate the country's economic development through agro-based industrialization.
He expressed optimism that this project will play an important role in the development of agro-based industries in the northern region.
The minister said Thakurgaon has earned a good reputation in cheese and tea exports. This district is very rich in producing all kinds of agricultural food and fruits.
He requested entrepreneurs and businessmen to come forward to establish industries in the BSCIC for food processing.
After the inspection, the Industries Minister inspected the ongoing development activities of the project and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project implementation.
He gave necessary instructions to the concerned officials to complete the work quickly while maintaining the quality of the work.
Construction of BSCIC Food Processing Industrial City in Thakurgaon began in July 2021. The project is scheduled to complete in June 2026.
Under the project, a modern, environmentally friendly and industrial compliance-rich industrial city is being developed on 50.00 acres of land in Akcha Mouza of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
A total of 251 industrial plots will be created here to create opportunities for setting up about 230 industrial units, through which it is expected to provide employment to about 25,000 people.
The implementation of the project will develop the local agro-based food processing industry including dairy, vegetables, fruits, tea and agricultural crops and will inject new momentum into the agro-based economy of the northern region.
As a result, it will facilitate the preservation, processing and marketing of farmers' products and create new opportunities for investment and employment at the local level, the concerned people expressed optimism.
During the visit, the minister exchanged views with local industrial entrepreneurs and listened carefully to their various problems, possibilities, and expectations.
