
DHAKA, June 5, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam today said journalist Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah played a pivotal role in guiding independent Bangladesh in the right direction.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking the 57th death anniversary of Daily Ittefaq founder Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah.
The programme was organized by Manik Miah Parishad at the Sagar-Runi Hall of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) here this morning.
Manik Miah Parishad President MA Jalil presided over the discussion, while Gono Forum President and freedom fighter Advocate Subrata Chowdhury attended as the main discussant.
Special guests included Advocate Gauranga Chandra Kar, President of Deshio Sanskritik Parishad; Mostak Ahmed Bhasani, Chairman of NAP Bhasani; journalist Kazi Faruk, Joint Editor of Dainik Mukto Khobor; journalist Abdul Gani; Badsha Uddin Mintu, President of Jatiya Sanskritik Parishad and freedom fighter Aminul Haque Bhuiyan.
Abdus Salam said Manik Miah's journalism helped shape national consciousness and unite the Bengali people during a crucial period in the country's history.
He urged all to uphold Manik Miah's courage and ideals in building a discrimination-free, democratic, rule-of-law-based and environmentally sustainable Bangladesh.
He added that political differences may exist, but unity in the national interest is essential for building a prosperous and developed nation.
