Afroza Abbas appointed Chairperson of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha

DHAKA, June 17, 2026 (BSS)-President of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal Afroza Abbas has been appointed as the Chairperson of Jatiya Mohila Sangtha (National Women's Organization).

A notification regarding the appointment was issued on Tuesday by the contract and foreign appointment wing of the Ministry of Public Administration.

According to the notification, Afroza Abbas, wife of the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Mirza Abbas, has been appointed under sections 8(1) and 8(2) of the National Women's Organization Act, 1991, following a request from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

Under the terms of the appointment, she will serve as chairperson for a period of two years from the date of her joining.

The government retains the authority to terminate the appointment at any time before the completion of the tenure if deemed necessary.

Similarly, the chairperson may resign from the post at any time by submitting a signed letter to the government.

The notification further stated that the appointment to the position of chairperson will be honorary and without remuneration.

The National Women's Organization has long played an important role in promoting women's development, empowerment, skills enhancement and greater participation of women in socio-economic activities across the country.

Stakeholders have expressed hope that the organization’s activities will become more dynamic under the leadership of the new chairperson.
