RANGPUR, July 21, 2026 (BSS) - A flash or short-term flooding is likely in 
low-lying areas adjacent to the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar in Lalmonirhat, 
Nilphamari, Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts of greater Rangpur in 
the next 24 hours. 
 
Meanwhile, incidents of sporadic erosion of riverside areas were reported 
from few places alongside the Teesta, Dharla, Brahmaputra and other rivers in 
the greater Rangpur region in recent days. 

Officials of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said that water levels 
of the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers in the northern Rangpur region 
have increased during the last 24 hours. 
 
Water levels of these three rivers may continue to rise over the next one day 
and remain stable during the following two days. 
 
During the last 24 hours, water levels of the Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers 
have increased at all points in Kurigram, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Bogura, 
Sirajganj and Tangail districts in the Brahmaputra basin. 
 
Water levels of these two major rivers may continue to rise over the next 
three days and remain stable during the following two days. 

During the next 24 to 72 hours, the Brahmaputra-Jamuna may flow at the 
Warning Level at some locations in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogura, 
Sirajganj and Tangail districts, and adjacent low-lying areas may be 
inundated.
 
During the last 24 hours till 9 am today, 120mm rainfall was recorded at 
Kalimpong and 74mm at Darjeeling points of the Indian state of West Bengal in 
the upstream northeastern India.
 
During the same period, 87mm rainfall was recorded at Sirajganj, 10mm at 
Rangpur, 22mm at Dalia in Nilphamari, 18mm at Kawnia and 27.5mm at Badarganj 
in Rangpur points in the downstream of the Brahmaputra basin.
 
BWDB's Rangpur Circle Superintending Engineer Md Ahsan Habib said that the 
extent of rainfall has decreased during the last 24 hours both in the 
upstream northeastern Indian states and downstream of the Brahmaputra basin 
in the greater Rangpur region.
 

"Although water levels of major rivers marked rise at almost all points 
during the last 24 hours, there is no possibility of any major flooding in 
the greater Rangpur region of Brahmaputra basin in the coming days," he said.

The Teesta was flowing below the DL by 26cm at Dalia point in Nilphamari, 
35cm at Kawnia point in Rangpur and 6cm at Tarapur and 18cm at Haripur points 
in Gaibandha respectively at 3pm today.
 
The Dudhkumar was flowing below DL by 17cm at Pateshwari, Dharla by 51cm 
below DML at Kurigram and Brahmaputra was flowing below its DL by 65cm at 
Noonkhawa, 40cm at Hatia and 37cm at Chilmari points respectively at 3 pm 
today. 
 
The Jamuna was flowing below DL by only 51cm at Fulchhari, 53cm at 
Bahadurabad, 41cm at Shaghata, 43cm at Sariakandi, 97cm at Kazipur and 59cm 
at Sirajganj points at 3 pm today.
