DHAKA, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today destroyed a huge quantity of narcotics worth more than Tk 83.78 crore, seized in separate anti-smuggling drives along the Cumilla and Satkhira border areas.

The narcotics were destroyed at separate programmes held this morning at the headquarters of Cumilla Battalion (10 BGB) and Neeldumur Battalion (17 BGB), according to a Paramilitary Force BGB press release this afternoon.

The destroyed drugs included large quantities of liquor, phensedyl and similar intoxicants, yaba tablets, cannabis, heroin, illegal medicines, narcotic tablets, LSD and 2.4 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ice).

Brigadier General Mohammad Saiful Islam Chowdhury, Region Commander of BGB's Sarail Region, attended the programme at Cumilla Battalion as the chief guest.

During the event, narcotics and other intoxicating substances worth Tk 51,83,84,125, seized in ownerless condition during various operations conducted over the past three years by Cumilla Battalion (10 BGB) and Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), were destroyed, the release said.

At the programme held at Neeldumur Battalion, BGB Jessore Region Commander Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan attended as the chief guest.

According to the release, various anti-smuggling operations conducted in the Shyamnagar, Debhata and Kaliganj border areas of Satkhira district between September 7, 2023 and July 11, 2026 led to the seizure of contraband goods worth Tk 51,85,07,550 and the arrest of 41 people.

Of the seized items, narcotics worth Tk 31,94,34,350 were destroyed today.

Senior officials of the district administrations of Cumilla and Satkhira, members of the judiciary, representatives of law enforcement agencies, the Department of Narcotics Control, Customs, public representatives, distinguished citizens and journalists from the print and electronic media attended the programmes.
