DHAKA, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent Satkhira thana Awami
League (AL) general secretary Md Nazrul Islam to jail in a case lodged over
the murder of Daffodil International University student Ramij Uddin in
Karwanbazar area during the 2024 July Mass Uprising.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Zunayed passed
the order as police produced Nazrul before the court and pleaded to place him
on a seven-day remand in the case. The court also set tomorrow to hold a
hearing on the remand plea.
According to the case documents, on July 24, 2024, Ramij Uddin, 21, a
Computer Science student at Daffodil International University, joined the
Anti-Discrimination Student Movement along with his friends. On that day, he
was shot in the right eye near the Karwan Bazar Metro Rail Station. The
shooters left him to die on the street.
Later, his friends and fellow protesters rushed him to Padma Hospital in
Kathalbagan for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred
to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for advanced medical care, where
the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
His father, AKM Rakibul Ahmed, filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station on
September 7, 2024.
