DHAKA, July 31, 2026 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir today said Bangladesh Police wants to make a significant contribution 
to the country's sports sector alongside its law enforcement responsibilities by reviving its tradition of excellence in national and international competitions.

"We want Bangladesh Police to leave a mark in sports as well," he said.

He made the remarks while addressing the prize-giving ceremony of the Bangladesh Police Football Championship (IGP Cup)-2025 at the newly built Bangladesh Police Football Ground in Purbachal.

The police chief said police have a proud history of achievements in national and international sporting events.

"We are committed to restoring that legacy," he stated.
 
Highlighting the importance of physical fitness, the police chief said regular sports and exercise are essential for police personnel to remain physically and mentally fit, enabling them to perform their demanding duties more efficiently.

The IGP congratulated both finalists and urged the players to continue regular training with dedication to develop themselves into top-level athletes.

In the final, Sylhet Range defeated Chattogram Range by 1-0 to lift the championship trophy. 

Jibon of Sylhet Range was named Man of the Match, while Amirul was adjudged Man of the Tournament.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Bangladesh Police Football Club President Mosleh Uddin Ahmed. Dhaka District Superintendent of Police and Bangladesh Police Football Club General Secretary Shamima Parvin delivered the welcome address. 

Senior police officials and invited guests were also present.

Earlier, the IGP inaugurated the foundation stone of the POHS Green Mart at the POHS-1 residential area. 

The mart is being constructed under the initiative of the Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust.
