DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS)- Police have uncovered the mystery behind the brutal murder of BNP activist Ibrahim Palash in the capital's Sabujbagh area, 
bringing four people under the law through arrests and court surrender while recovering one of the victim's severed hands and two machetes allegedly used 
in the killing.

According to Sabujbagh Police Station, the murder took place at around 8:10 pm on July 21 near the Rajarbagh Bagpara Water Pump area, where a group of 
assailants led by Mostafa Hossain Royel, 37, attacked Palash with sharp weapons. 

The attackers allegedly severed both of his hands before killing him on the spot.

Police launched an immediate investigation and arrested suspect Naim, 25, from Jatrabari on July 22. 

Based on his information, officers recovered one severed hand of the victim and a large machete believed to have been used in the murder. 

Naim later gave a confessional statement before a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on July 23.

In a follow-up operation, police arrested another fugitive suspect, Ali, 29, from Mymensingh on July 27. 

He also made a confessional statement before the court on July 28.

The case's prime accused, Mostafa Hossain Royel, 37, and another suspect, Sabuj, 38, surrendered before a court on July 26. 

The court rejected their bail petitions and sent them to jail. 

During subsequent police remand, investigators recovered another large machete allegedly used in the killing based on information provided by Royel.

Royel recorded his confessional statement before the court on July 31, while Sabuj did so on August 3.

Police said drives are continuing to arrest the remaining fugitives involved in the murder.
