DHAKA, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today said that “Science Toys”, science-based play materials, are being incorporated into the curriculum to foster scientific thinking and creativity among primary-level students.

“We want children to learn science not just from the pages of books, but through play and hands-on activities. This plan has been adopted to make the learning process enjoyable and practical for children,” he said.

The state minister made the remarks as the chief guest at an event organised by UNICEF Bangladesh at a city hotel on the “Foundational Learning Action Tracker (FLAT),” said a press release issued here.

Bobby Hajjaj said special emphasis is being placed on science, mathematics, design and creativity in primary education.

Alongside science-based materials, a decision has been made to establish “Math Labs” in every primary school, where children will be able to easily master fundamental mathematical concepts such as shapes, forms, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using various materials.

Highlighting the importance of addressing foundational learning gaps, the state minister said the main goal of primary education is to build a solid foundation in basic reading, writing and arithmetic for every child.

Mentioning various initiatives taken to bring “out-of-school children” back into the mainstream of education and prevent dropouts, he also said a decision has been made to provide free school uniforms to help retain children in schools.

The formal launch of the “Free School Uniform Distribution Programme” will be held for the first time on August 16.

Regarding the Mid-Day Meal programme, Bobby Hajjaj said a practical and effective implementation framework is being developed by addressing the shortcomings identified through experience from the pilot project. Strong monitoring and evaluation systems will be ensured in the implementation of every project.
