DHAKA, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 2.46 lakh yaba tablets, a foreign-made pistol and five rounds of ammunition during a special operation in the Ghumdhum border area of Naikhyangchhari upazila in Bandarban.

BGB's Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) conducted the operation based on intelligence information on Sunday night, said a press release issued by the paramilitary force this evening.

Members of Ghumdhum Border Outpost received information that smugglers would bring a large consignment of yaba tablets, firearms and ammunition into Bangladesh from Myanmar.

Acting on the information, a BGB team led by Battalion Deputy Commander Major Mehedi Hasan Ashiq conducted a special operation in the border area around 11pm.

At around 12:15am today, the team spotted a group of smugglers approaching Naya Para near Border Pillar No. 31 and challenged them.

The smugglers fled the scene, leaving behind the pistol, ammunition and 246,000 Burmese yaba tablets worth around Taka 12.50 crore.

Legal procedures are underway in this connection, the release said.

Cox's Bazar Battalion Commander Lt Col SM Khairul Alam said regular operations are being conducted to curb such activities and strengthen security and public confidence in border areas.

"Such operations to ensure border security and prevent drug trafficking will continue in the future," he added.
