DHAKA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) – The government today fired afresh six BCS police cadre officers accusing them of charges including “desertion”.

The home ministry in separate notifications signed by its Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury ordered dismissal of the officers two of sdenior most of them being additional deputy inspectors general (DIG) Biplob Kumar and Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty.

They both previously served as Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) joint commissioners.

The others who were fired from service are: police superintendents (SP) Md Iqbal Hossain and Kazi Ashraful Azim, additional SP Rajan Kumar Das, and DMP’s assistant commissioner Golam Ruhani.

The officers were attached to different units and offices under police headquarters prior to their dismissal.

According to the nearly identical notifications the sacked police officers remained absent from their respective workplaces for a prolonged period without obtaining leave or prior permission.

The home ministry said the officials were served notices asking them to explain their unauthorised absence, but none of them replied.

The notifications said departmental proceedings later found prima facie evidence of misconduct, prompting the government to remove them from service with immediate effect under Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
