CHATTOGRAM, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS)- A special joint drive was conducted at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port and Karnaphuli Channel to prevent illegal stockpiling, use of vessels as floating warehouses and ensure safe navigation.
The joint operation was conducted today by Chattogram Port Authority (CPA), Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard.
During the drive, 28 people were detained for allegedly placing illegal fishing nets in the navigational channel. Of them, 24 were sentenced one month jail by magistrate, CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said.
He said surveillance activities at the outer anchorage have been increased to prevent anchoring vessels for long time to create artificial crisis of goods supply.
Leaflets were also distributed among local residents to raise awareness and prevent the placement of illegal nets in the navigational channel.
Syed Refayet Hamim said strict legal action would continue against any attempt to hording goods by creating floating warehouses in the outer anchor.
