KHULNA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will launch a crash programme from Thursday in dengue-prone areas of the city to contain the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban on Wednesday afternoon, with KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju in the chair.

Under the programme, the affected wards have been divided into three zones. Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 12, 15 and 16 are in Zone A, wards 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26 and 27 in Zone B and wards 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 and 31 in Zone C.

Three committees, headed by the KCC secretary, chief engineer and chief revenue officer, will supervise activities in the respective zones. All officials and employees engaged in the programme will remain on duty until further notice, with their leave cancelled.

Manju will inaugurate the programme at 9am Thursday in front of Khulna Government Sundarban Adarsha College in Ward 30 and at 9:30am in front of the Ward 28 office.

The programme includes distributing awareness leaflets, conducting publicity campaigns through loudspeakers, spraying mosquito-control chemicals, and carrying out fogging every morning and afternoon. Teams will also identify dengue hotspots and mosquito breeding grounds and involve local residents in eliminating them.

Religious leaders including imams, priests and church fathers, will be requested to conduct awareness campaigns through their respective institutions.

The meeting also decided to conduct mobile courts led by executive magistrates if mosquito larvae or breeding grounds are found on the premises of any house or establishment.

KCC urged residents to clean their courtyards, bushes and waterlogged areas and remain alert to stagnant water in tyres, cans, eggshells, coconut shells, flower pots, under basins, beside refrigerators and air conditioners, and on sunshades.

Residents who develop fever were advised to consult doctors or contact KCC primary healthcare centres. Hospitals and clinics were also urged to keep their premises clean and follow government guidelines for treating dengue patients.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman, Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Jabbar, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiyul Islam and other senior officials attended the meeting.
