DHAKA, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today said good teachers alone are not enough to ensure quality primary education, and supportive families, aware communities and responsible school management are also important. 

"Primary education is not solely the responsibility of schools and teachers. The combined role of families, schools and communities is needed to build a strong foundation for a child's educational life," he said. 

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Community Engagement in Primary Education" with representatives of various non-governmental development organizations (NGOs) at the Directorate of Primary Education.

He said the government has taken an initiative to launch the Parent Circle programme to involve parents more closely with schools.

"Through the initiative, parents will have opportunities to regularly communicate and exchange views with schools on children's studies, attendance, behaviour, health and overall development," he added.

The state minister said the government has also started the Friend Register programme to bring schools closer to communities.

Referring to families, communities and school management, he said, "We want to establish effective links among families, communities and school management."

He added that the government's goal is to make schools vibrant educational centres with collective participation of children, parents and communities.

Describing schools as centres for shaping the future of communities, he said, "We want to involve parents and every responsible person in society in building that future." 

He also highlighted the possible utilization of the experience and expertise of the NGOs and development partners in this regard.

To this end, he called for establishing coordinated partnerships between government institutions and NGOs to develop every school into an effective educational centre connected with the local community.

The NGO representatives attending the meeting expressed their interest in working in coordination with the government's ongoing initiatives for the development of primary education.
