Training held to make rail services smoke-free in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - The railways ministry today organized a training session to ensure smoke and tobacco-free rail services at CRB in Chattogram. 

The programme, held under the third phase of the Initiative to Make Bangladesh Railway Tobacco-Free, aimed at implementing the Tobacco Control Act-2005 (amended 2026), the Railway Act-1890 and related administrative directives.

Railways Ministry Secretary Md Fahimul Islam attended the programme as the chief guest with BR's Eastern Zone General Manager Md Subaktagin in the chair.

Fahimul Islam said a smoke-free environment is prerequisite to improve quality of railway services. 

He urged all concerned to play a responsible role in ensuring a smoke-free environment on railway premises.

The secretary issued necessary directives to officials and employees concerned to control smoking and the use of tobacco products at stations and other railway facilities, as well as on moving trains.

A total of 25 railway officials took part in the training.
