BAGERHAT, Aug 26, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam today called on people from all walks of life to come forward alongside the government to plant and nurture trees to protect environmental balance, conserve biodiversity and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.

He made the call while inaugurating the 'Tree Plantation Program-2026' at Mongla in Bagerhat, organised under the supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

The programme is being implemented in different areas under the Coast Guard West Zone by Enroot Foundation under the overall supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, with the theme 'Beautify the country with tree plantation, Bangladesh first.'

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan disclosed the information in a press release this afternoon.

The state minister said the government has adopted a five-year master plan to plant 25 crore trees across the country to preserve forests, wildlife, the environment and biodiversity.

As part of the initiative, the tree plantation programme has been undertaken in various areas of the Coast Guard West Zone to help maintain ecological balance, conserve biodiversity and address the adverse effects of climate change.

Under the programme, around 9,400 saplings will be planted in different areas under the Coast Guard West Zone.

According to the Coast Guard, planting trees in coastal areas will contribute to maintaining ecological balance, preventing soil erosion, preserving biodiversity habitats and reducing the adverse impacts of climate change.

The initiative is also expected to play an important role in the integrated efforts to protect the natural environment and biodiversity in Mongla and adjoining coastal areas of Bagerhat.

The press release said Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such activities in the future to conserve the environment, protect biodiversity and promote sustainable greening.
