DHAKA, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) - Three members of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) were killed and four others injured in a road accident while performing official duties at the third terminal area of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport in the capital.
The accident occurred around 9:35 pm on Monday when a BAF jeep carrying seven members of the Quick Response Force (QRF) met with the accident while they were on duty, according to an ISPR press release issued today.
Immediately after the accident, BAF personnel rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and took them to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.
The duty doctors at CMH declared Warrant Officer Sultan Mahmud, Corporal Moniruzzaman Pias and LAC Md Zubaidul Islam dead, the release said.
The four other BAF personnel, who sustained serious injuries, are undergoing treatment at CMH.
Since August 5, 2024, BAF personnel have been deployed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and other key airports across the country under the "In Aid to Civil Power" arrangement to assist in maintaining law and order, ensuring passenger safety and facilitating secure travel.
A namaz-e-janaza and funeral parade for the deceased were held with full military honours at 5:30 pm today at the C-130 hangar of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam A K Khandker (Kurmitola) in Dhaka Cantonment.
Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman attended the janaza.
Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan paid tribute to the deceased by placing wreaths on their coffins.
Family members of the deceased, former chiefs of air staff, senior government officials, senior military officers and BAF personnel of different ranks attended the funeral.
Following the janaza, the bodies were taken to their respective village homes. A BAF delegation will later complete their burial with due military honours.
The Bangladesh Air Force expressed profound grief over the deaths and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families. It also prayed for the early recovery of the injured personnel.
