National winter school sports competition ends in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 12, 2024 (BSS) - The 52nd National Winter Sports Competition of 
school, madrasas and technical institutes ended here today amidst a colourful 
mood.
 
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Rajshahi and 
Bangladesh National School, Madrasha and Technical Institutions Sports 
Association jointly organized the six-day national sports event at Government 
Physical Education College. 

A total of 824 students, including 384 girls, from across the country 
dividing into four sport regions took part in the final meet.
 
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir attended 
the closing and prize giving ceremony as chief guest, with BISE Chairman 
Professor Oliul Alam in the chair.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Anisur Rahman, Commissioner of Rajshahi 
Metropolitan Police Biplob Bijoy Talukder and Superintendent of Police Saifur 
Raman were also present. 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir said there is no 
alternative to sports and physical exercise for physical and mental 
development of students.

He advised the students to be attentive to sports regularly side by side with 
routine curricular activities.
In the present context, he mentioned that many students are being found 
addicted to Smartphones which is detrimental to their health.

On the contrary, engagement in sports and other co-curricular activities can 
be the best way of boosting academic performance and building confidence and 
leadership skills.

Later, the guests distributed trophies, medals and prizes among the winners 
in different events.
