Mohammedan earn comfortable win in BPL

DHAKA, May 25, 2024 (BSS)- Mohammedan Sporting Club registered a comfortable 
victory as they blanked Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 3-1 goals 
in their penultimate round match of ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League 
(BPL) football held at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj on 
Saturday.
 
In the day's match, Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored a brace while 
Nigerian forward Sunday Emmanuel scored one goal each for Mohammedan who led 
the first half by 1-0 goal. Uzbek defender Shokhrukhbek Kholmatov netted a 
lone for Sheikh Jamal.

Diabate put Mohammedan ahead in the 36th minute while after the breather 
Sunday doubled the lead scoring the second goal in the 53rd minute of the 
match.

Diabate further widened the margin scoring his second and third goal for 
Mohammedan in the 90th minute while Kholmatov reduced the margin scoring a 
lone goal for Sheikh Jamal in the 90+4th minute from a spot kick.

The day's win saw the traditional black and white Motijheel outfit 
Mohammedan, who stand second position in the league table, raised their tally 
to 32 points from 17 matches while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who are 
eighth position in the league table, remained at their previous collection of 
17 points playing the same number of matches. 
 
After the match, both Mohammedan and Abahani have equal 32 points and they 
will have to wait till the last round to decide the runners-up spot.
