DHAKA, Aug 4, 2024 (BSS) - Bangla Tigers' Mississauga's three-match winning streak came to an end when they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Brampton Wolves in the Global T20 Canada at Brampton yesterday.
It was the second defeat of Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangla Tigers in the fifth match. Since their defeat in the very first game, they won three matches in a row to move to the second spot in the point table but the latest defeat brought them down to fourth spot.
Shakib and his compatriot Shoriful Islam both failed to prop up their game in the vital moment, which further sank the team.
Shakib's failure with the willow continued as he scored just four runs and later he didn't bowl a single over in the match. Shoriful Islam bowled three overs and conceded 25 runs.
However, not only Shakib, but also all of the batters of Bangla Tigers failed to stand tall in the face of some disciplined bowling for Brampton Wolves. Eventually they were bowled out for just 79 in 13 overs with three batters reaching double digits.
Iftikhar Ahmed top-scored with 10 while David Wiese made 10. No.11 batter Shoriful Islam added 12 and 10 runs came from extras.
Andrew Tye and Thomas Draca wrecked havoc on Shakib's team, claiming three wickets apiece while Jack Jarvis and Abjijali Mansingh took two wickets each.
Brampton Wolves captain David Warner led the charge with 33 ball-44 not out with six fours and one six as his side raced to the victory with 80-2 in 11.2 overs. Beau Webster was not out on 23.
David Wiese had Wolves opener Kobe Herft leg-before for naught in the fourth ball but Warner hit the bowlers all corner of the park to make the victory a cake-walk. Jack Jarvis was the other batter out for 11 when Ali Khan had him caught by Rayyan Pathan.
