Abahani beat Rahmatganj in BPL

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2025 (BSS)- Abahani Limited edged past old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by a solitary goal in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League Football held at Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium today.

After the barren first half, defender Shakil Hossain finally broke the deadlock scoring the all-important goal for Abahani Limited in the 68th minute of the match.
Rahmatganj however tried their best to stage a fight back in the match but they could not score any goal in the remaining proceeding.     

The day’s win saw the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited raised their tally to 19 points from eight matches while Rahmatganj remained at their previous collection of 15 points playing the same number of matches.  

League leaders Mohammedan already reached top in the table with 24 points with one match in hand in the first round.
   
Abahani and Rahmatganj will play their respective last round matches against Brothers Union and Bangladesh Police Football Club respectively.
 
Earlier, Abahani Limited Dhaka, standing second position on the table beat Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club by 2-0 goals in their league opening match,  edged past Dhaka Wanderers Club by 1-0 goal in their second match, lost to arch rival Mohammedan by 1-0 goal and defeated Bashundhara Kings by 1-0 goal, beat Bangladesh Police Football Club by 2-0 goals, played out to a goalless draw with Fortis Football Club and thrashed Chittagong Abahani Limited by 4-0 goals.

Rahmatganj earlier made winning start in the league beating Fortis Football Club by 3-1 goals, defeated Chittagong Abahani Limited by 2-0 goals, lost 4-1 goals to Bashundhara Kings, notched 3-1 win over Brothers Union Club, thrashed Fakirerpool by 6-1 goals, crushed Dhaka Wanderers also 6-1 goals and suffered 3-1 defeat to Mohammedan.
