Kings finish group A champions

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2025 (BSS) - Bashundhara Group finished as group A champions of the Bashundhara Group Federation Cup football thrashing Dhaka Wanderers Club by 5-0 goals held at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Tuesday.

With this win, Kings secured nine points from four matches while Dhaka Wanderers Club, yet to secure any points playing the same number of matches.

In the day's match, Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira gave Kings a deserving lead in the 18th minute while Sohel Rana doubled the lead scoring the second goal in the 40th minute of the match.

After the resumption, Kings further went ahead through a suicidal goal scored by Rasel of Dhaka Wanderers in the 55th minute of the match.

Sohel scored his second and fourth for Kings in the 70th minute while defender Topu completed the winners' tally scoring a goal in the 77th minute of the match.

There are no traditional semifinals in the Federation Cup this time. The top two teams from the two groups will advance to the qualifiers road to the final. The champions and runners-up of the two groups will face each other.

The winners of the fight between the two champions will directly advance to the final while the losing team will get a chance to play another match.

The winners' of the two runners-up will play the among the lossers of two champion teams. The winners of that match will advance as the second finalist.

In the second match of the day, Brothers Union Club also moved road to final from group A after playing out to a goalless draw with Bangladesh Police Football Club held at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.

With the day's win, Brothers secured seven points from four matches while Fortis Football Club also have seven points playing the same number of matches.

According to the by-laws of the tournament, if two teams are equal in points, head to head will be considered first to determine their position. As Brothers earlier beat Forties 1-0 in the group stage match, so the Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union have qualified for the road to final.

Earlier, Abahani Limited Dhaka and Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society have confirmed their qualifiers from group B. However the group champions will be decided after match of the two teams.
