DHAKA, Sept 28, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh Women's team warmed up well for the 
upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, edging Sri Lanka past by just 1 runs in a 
tight contest at Colombo Cricket Ground on Saturday.

Thanks to Sharmin Akter Supta's brilliant 71, Bangladesh put up a 242-8 
before defending it well by wrapping up Sri Lanka for 241.

Nahida Akter shined in with bowling to claim 3-28, a performance that played 
a vital role in giving the side a much-needed boost ahead of the World Cup.

Fahima Khatun and Marufa Akter grabbed two wickets apiece to play a second 
fiddle to Nahida.

Nilakshika Silva made team-best for Sri Lanka with 75 while Kavisha Dilhari 
scored 63 but their effort mattered little as Bangladesh held the never to 
seal the victory in the last over.

Earlier, Supta steadied the innings at a moment when Bangladesh lost opener 
Farzana Hoque Pinky for just 1. She, accompanied by Rubya Haider Jhilik, 
shared 90-run for the second wicket to set the tune, with the latter making 
33.

The departure of Jhilik left Bangladesh in a precarious situation as the 
middle order crumbled against a disciplined Sri Lankan attack. Supta kept the 
side rolling with sustained aggression and hit seven fours in her innings 
before Dewmi Vihanga dismissed her.

Sumaiya Akter made 38 and Fahima Khatun scored 26 not out to help the side 
edge closer to the 250-run mark.

Sri Lanka are one of the two teams apart from Pakistan, whom Bangladesh 
targeted to beat in the ensuing World Cup.

Bangladesh's first warm-up match against South Africa on last Thursday was 
washed out due to rain.

Bangladesh will open their World Cup by taking on Pakistan on October 2 in 
Colombo.
