Tourist missing while bathing in Bandarban’s Matamuhuri river

BANDARBAN, April 16, 2026 (BSS) – A tourist went missing while bathing in the Matamuhuri River in Lama upazila of Bandarban today.

The missing tourist has been identified as Abdul Wadud, 19, resident of the Agrabad area in Chattogram, said police.  

The incident occurred around 1pm in the Minjhiri (Sadapahar) area of Ward number - 7 under Fasiakhali Union in Lama upazila.

As of 6:00 pm, the fire service had not been able to rescue him.

According to local sources, Abdul Wadud, along with five of his friends, arrived at a resort named Minjhiri White Peak Station near the Matamuhuri River in Lama from the Sitakunda area at around 12:00 +pm on Thursday. 

After checking into the resort, they went down to the river for a bath around 1PM. During bathing, he accidentally went into deep water and went missing.

Resort staff and locals searched for him but could not find him, and later informed the Lama Fire Service. A team from the Lama Fire Service arrived at the scene around 1:30 PM and began rescue operations.

Resort owner Azim said that six tourists had arrived at their resort. They left their belongings and bags at the resort and went to bathe in the nearby Matamuhuri River, where one of them went missing. Upon receiving the news, Lama Fire Service personnel  and Lama Police Station arrived at the scene. At the time of writing this report, the missing tourist had not yet been rescued.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lama Police Station, Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal, said that efforts are on to rescue the missing tourist, and his family in Chattogram has been informed.
