NARAIL, Feb 24, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set a target for Boro paddy cultivation on 50,280 hectares of land in three upazilas of the district.
"A total of 50,280 hectares of land have been set for Boro paddy cultivation in three upazilas of the district in the current season," Nipu Majumdar, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Narail District DAE told BSS.
The department in this season has the target for Boro cultivation on 50 hectares more land than last year due to good production in the last Aman season and fair price of paddy, he said.
Of the target, 23,330 hectares of land have been set for Boro paddy cultivation in Narail Sadar Upazila, 10,335 hectares in Lohagara Upazila and 16,615 hectares in Kalia Upazila.
The DAE is going to the field level to provide necessary advice to the farmers for the overall care of the lands where the Boro paddy is being cultivated.
Deputy Director of Narail District DAE Md. Jasim Uddin said that Boro paddy cultivation has already been completed on 49,292 hectares of land in the current season.
"Planting work has been completed on 98 percent of the targeted land. It is expected that the Boro paddy cultivation will exceed the target," he said.
The officer said that farmers have become more focused on Boro paddy cultivation as there is no shortage of fertilizers and pesticides, farmers have irrigation facilities and the price of paddy is good.
Many farmers have already completed the work of planting paddy seedlings. After planting the paddy seedlings, the farmers are now busy with various tasks including irrigating the land, spreading fertilizer, clearing weeds, and planting seedlings.
The sources also said that the high-yielding hybrid rice varieties planted this time are Ispahani Seven, ACI Company's Bandhu, Singental Company's Hira 12, Braxseed's Sathi, Aftab 106, and Supreme Seed Company's Hira Six.
Among the indigenous rice varieties, farmers have planted various high-yielding rice including Bri Dhan 74, Bri Dhan 100, 102, and Bina 25.
