KURIGRAM, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS) - A devastating fire broke out at Kochakata Bazar under Nageshwari upazila in the district early today, burning down at least eight business establishments.

Upon receiving information, a unit of Nageshwari Fire Service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after an hour-long effort. By that time, most of the shops had already been completely burnt down.

Team Leader of Nageshwari Fire Service Saiful Islam said the fire was initially suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit. He added that prompt response helped avert a larger disaster.

According to local traders, goods worth over Taka 40 lakh were destroyed in the blaze that erupted at dawn.

They said that they noticed smoke billowing from the market early in the morning and rushed to the scene, but the fire had already spread rapidly. They demanded quick rehabilitation and compensation for the affected businessmen.
