THAKURGAON, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS) - After prolonged public suffering, repair work has finally begun on important roads and drainage systems within Thakurgaon municipality.

The roads, which had been full of potholes for a long time, caused severe inconvenience for commuters. Additionally, due to the poor condition of the drains, even a light rain used to flood the main roads.

On Friday morning, the work was formally inaugurated at the municipal community center by Mirza Foysal Amin, President of Thakurgaon District BNP.

The project is being implemented under the Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project (RUTDP) by Thakurgaon Municipality, with an estimated budget of about Tk 300 crore.

Under this project, roads and RCC drains will be constructed from Sattyapir Bridge to Goalpra Sultan's house, and from the east side of Mirza Pump towards Nargun. The total road length is 9.150 kilometers, and the drain length is 7.250 kilometers.

Initially, Tk 30 crore has been allocated for repair work under the project.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sardar Mostafa Shahin, Project Director Mofiz Uddin Babul, District BNP General Secretary Poigam Ali, Chief Executive Officer of the Municipality Rakibuzzaman, and Municipal BNP President Shariful Islam Sharif were present on the occasion.
